The free tool x360ce lets you use your keyboard as an Xbox controller, so you can join Steam Remote Play Together as a "controller" even if you don't have one.
Your keyboard stands in for a controller.
Join games where only 1P can use the keyboard and everyone else needs a controller.
Join from your PC, with a big screen and a keyboard.
x360ce runs on Windows.
The one you always use is fine.
You'll download it from the official site in step 1.
You only do this once. After that, just turn it ON as in step 5.
Now just join from the Steam invite link. When you're done playing, untick it to turn it OFF.
This is the map that the preset in step 4 sets up: move with WASD on your left hand, press buttons with IJKL on your right. It works for most games.
In the format x360ce's Paste Preset reads.

Installing Virtual Device Driver can hang. Wait about 15 seconds, then force-quit x360ce and start it again.
Check whether the Issues tab shows ⚠. If it does, install as in step 2. Also make sure Enable 1 Mapped Device is ticked.
Press Download and Install on the right to install what's needed.
Choose Record in the drop-down next to the button you want to change, then press the key you want. When a red ● blinks on the controller picture in the middle, it's assigned. Finish with Save All.
Untick Enable 1 Mapped Device to turn it OFF, and your keyboard goes back to normal.
